From Print Canon to Platform Literature: Gatekeeping, Cyber Aesthetics, and Metricized Legitimacy in Indonesian Literary Modernity

Abstract

This article examines Indonesian literary modernity as a media-ecological transition from print canonization to cyber counter-publics and platform-mediated legitimacy. The study draws on a curated spreadsheet of 59 records covering authors, works, anthologies, communities, platforms, media forms, eras, stylistic attributes, achievements, reception status, and source indices. Instead of treating cyber literature as a simple technological novelty, the article codes the corpus into medium clusters, historical phases, reception types, legitimation regimes, and cultural functions. The findings show that the corpus is organized by four overlapping media regimes: print-dominant literary field (23 records), platform/social-media literature (18), early/curated cyber infrastructure (16), and performance or expanded forms (2). The analysis identifies a shift from editorial-institutional legitimacy to metric-platform legitimacy, while state-political memory and community-network archives continue to shape literary value. The article argues that Indonesian cyber literature began as a counter-public against print gatekeeping but increasingly operates inside platform capitalism, where visibility, adaptation potential, and reader metrics reorganize authorship, genre, and canon formation. The contribution is a corpus-grounded model of Indonesian literary platform modernity.
